This article starts off a little snarky, but let’s face it, we all want to not suck at life and most of us want to be successful running our businesses. So, how can we do this? It’s actually a lot more abstract than you might think. And, you’re already doing a great job. I mean, you’re reading this article and trying to not suck at life right?? That’s pretty cool that you care. You probably also care a lot about others and your business. So, long story short, you’re already on the right track. Let’s dive in!
To Not Suck at Life and Running Your Real Estate Business, Give Yourself Time
You might find this next piece of advice a little counter intuitive. I mean, we’re trying to take action to not suck at life, but what I am about to recommend actually involves inaction. Yes, give yourself space. Schedule yourself “busy” for one to two days a week (leave your weekends roughly open too), and see how your life changes. Giving yourself extra time allows for creativity, special projects, and pop-up events and crises.
If you work so hard that you schedule every single minute of your calendar each week, you’ll find yourself quickly burnt out, cutting corners and not getting it all done. Then, you get stress, loss of sleep, frustration, and simply not your best work. So, give yourself space and time to not suck. The old way was setting yourself up for disaster, because we are all humans and life is unexpected. Plan for the unplanned and you’ll find success much quicker, and arrive there with more grace.
What Else Can You Do to Stay Successful in Life and Business?
Make friends! Yes, everyone out there can be a big support to you. Grow your own networking group and become a leader in your community. Stay in touch with colleagues and clients and check in on them from time to time. Send a snail mail letter once in a while. Remember people’s names. Smile! This energetic exchange will bring more people into your life, which means more maybe more sales, and definitely more opportunities. Don’t be shy, get on out there!
Read and educate! Always be reading a book that inspires you. It can be business or self-improvement related, but it could also be a book of poems, a novel, or a history book. It truly just has to be something to tap into that part of your brain that deeply brainstorms. Reading helps creativity and mindfulness. And these two things are essential for a successful CEO of your own business.
Teach a class! Show what you know! Putting on a paid or free educational class for your community is a great way to meet fellow real estate professionals and the public at-large. Many times you can rent a conference room at your local library at no cost to you. Put out the good word and see who comes! At minimum, you’ll grow your email list and sphere of influence. At best, you could end up with a lifelong friend or valuable client. Yes! Get on out there!
