Successful real estate agents have a few things in common. It all starts with daily habits. What can you do in your real estate business to make sure that you have constant, quality leads plus time to focus on long-term goals (as well as a chance to have some fun in your business!)? Yes, fun is a priority by the way! Let’s take a look at what makes successful real estate agents win in their business while enjoying the process too.
Mantras for Real Estate Agents
Just like professional athletes who visualize winning the game before they step on the field, real estate agents need to make sure they have a positive attitude in order to win at their game. Every day, remind yourself that you are capable of anything you set your mind to. Some agents use meditation or visualization. You can also try posting a sticky note to your mirror with a testimonial from a recent happy client. Or, perhaps reading an article from a real estate success coach that you admire (like this one!) will help you get in ready mode. Whatever it takes, make sure that you are beginning your day feeling capable, strong, and able to tackle anything that comes your way.

Prioritize and Structure Your Day and Week
If you’re like most real estate professionals, you have more to do in one week than there is humanly time to do it. That’s modern day life. At REStructure NOW, we don’t recommend tackling everything, because you’ll end up with even more on the to-do list and not enough on the done list. Nope. We recommend making a quick list of your top priorities and ignoring everything until those are done, or until you’ve hit your allotted time limit.
Reading emails in the morning can really throw off your day. It can lead you down “rabbit holes” and before you know it, it’s lunch time and you’re tired already. Instead, perhaps block off 8am – 10am for your most important tasks and stay far, far away from your inbox and phone. Take breaks, but stay focused on those top priorities. You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment and you’ll start to see that some major progress gets made. Ironically… when you ignore everything else, it still all gets done, but you are able to get closer and closer to achieving your long-term goals, while working on self discipline. Trying to do it all means you’re just picking here and there, without finishing the big stuff. Try to structure your day and week a little bit differently and see if you like the results. Our guess? You’ll love it.
“You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.” – David Allen
Follow-Up on Leads
Are you keeping lists of current clients, former clients, social media leads, community partners, and online prospects? Or, are you kiiiiiind of winging it? If it’s the latter, you’ll want to start getting organized in order to pick up on the habits of highly successful real estate agents. Setting aside an hour for calls and an hour for emails can help you get farther in your lead follow-ups. It’s kind of an “assembly line” thought process. If you are doing the same task, over and over, you can get more accomplished and get on a roll. Yet, if you are switching back and forth between emails and calls, your body and mind don’t get into the program quite as easily.
Having the discipline to segment your reach outs can help you get farther, faster. Make sure you take notes and have a good system for this. You don’t want to let anything slip through the cracks. Doing this regularly can help you generate quality and consistent leads for your real estate business. Don’t skip days…. Make sure this is a top priority task and watch as things start to magnetically shift in your favor.
Work on Growth
Many real estate agents end up doing whatever comes their way each day, then look back and feel like they got nothing done. Working on things like social media, blogging, putting on an event, or writing a chapter in the book you’re beginning, often take a back seat. Yet, these need to be on your list too! Especially during busy times. Many real estate agents tend to work on these projects only when they are experiencing a slow period. Yet, constantly sharing and striving toward your publicity efforts means that you are creating your own luck. By structuring and using the methods we’ve discussed so far, you’ll begin to see major progress. In fact, one of our favorite quotes at REStructure NOW is:
“Luck is when opportunity meets preparation.” – Seneca
So, make sure to find a quiet spot each day and plug away at your marketing efforts. They will not go unnoticed, but if you’re not working on them at all… they surely will.
When we go, go, go (and go)… we get burned out. It’s human nature. It’s animal nature too. Every living thing needs rest. When you’re weight training, you know that recovery is just as important as are the reps. Without a break, without a distraction, and without fun, you’re going to need to stop and likely for longer than you have time for. Inadvertently, by pushing yourself too much, you could end up taking back all the progress you made because of the recovery time.
But, if you schedule time for laughs, exploring, napping, and plain old doing nothing, then you’ll be maintaining your balance and able to accomplish more. Putting yourself on a schedule is good, but putting yourself on too strict a schedule can lead to exhaustion and self-destruction.
Which day is best for you to have some fun? Friday afternoons? Cut yourself off from work midday and go for a hike. Need Mondays to organize your life and get a pedicure? Do it! Whatever works for you, make sure you’re giving yourself that time to recoup and face the day and week with style.
